Dr. Ir. Mochamad Asrofi, S.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng. is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Jember, Indonesia. His research focuses on sustainable materials and green composite technologies, particularly in the areas of natural fiber modification, nanocellulose, biocomposites, bionanocomposites, and bio-based polymers such as thermoplastic starch. His work emphasizes the utilization of biomass and agricultural waste to develop environmentally friendly materials for engineering and packaging applications.
Dr. Asrofi completed his doctoral degree through the PMDSU (Magister-to-Doctoral Acceleration Program for Outstanding Graduates) and obtained his Ph.D. at the age of 25. Since beginning his academic career in 2019, he has actively conducted research on bio-based composite materials derived from lignocellulosic resources, including sugarcane bagasse, banana sheath fibers, water hyacinth, rice straw, and other biomass residues. His research aims to convert abundant agricultural waste into high-value sustainable materials, supporting the principles of circular economy and green manufacturing.
He has authored numerous scientific publications in reputable international journals and contributed to books and collaborative research projects. His research outputs have been widely cited by researchers worldwide, reflecting the growing impact of his work in the field of sustainable materials.
Dr. Asrofi has been recognized among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2023, 2024, and 2025, based on the global ranking released by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, which evaluates researchers using Scopus citation data and composite indicators such as citation impact, h-index, and authorship position.
In addition to academic research, he actively collaborates with interdisciplinary researchers and industry partners to advance bio-based and compostable materials for sustainable packaging applications.
